MRM leads the way: 318 tons of CO₂e saved.

28. April 2025

318 tons of CO₂e saved through reused Microsoft licenses. And that’s not all.

Sustainability in software procurement is more than just a promise: MRM Distribution GmbH has had the environmental impact of reused Microsoft licenses calculated for the first time by ClimatePartner as part of its new brand green licensing by MRM. The result: since the company was founded in 2017, the use of used Microsoft licenses has saved 318 tons of CO₂e. And these are not the only good news the software distributor has to share.

Supporting sustainability with facts

As a distributor of reused software, MRM combines legal certainty and sustainability in its business model. The newly published analysis shows that extending the lifecycle of a license through reuse reduces its environmental footprint – making it a sustainable alternative to purchasing new licenses.

“With the ClimatePartner calculation, we can provide concrete proof of the environmental impact of our products,” explains MRM Managing Director Melanie Achten. Environmental impact is increasingly becoming a factor in IT tenders, and MRM partners can benefit from this analysis. With Microsoft licenses from the secondary market, companies issuing tenders receive a legally compliant, cost-efficient, and more sustainable software solution.

More than “just” cost savings

green licensing by MRM gives channel partners even more opportunities to design their customers’ IT environments in a resource-efficient AND cost-efficient way.

This includes, among other things:

MRM Distribution – now also a CSP partner!

2025 brings many developments for the Munich-based reseller. Melanie Achten had already announced this at the IT Business annual kickoff. Now she is presenting another important update alongside green licensing by MRM:

“We are now a Microsoft CSP partner!”

By expanding its used software business with cloud computing services, the distributor offers something unique in the channel: classic volume licenses (new and used) combined intelligently with Microsoft 365.

“Our extensive licensing expertise should benefit both system integrators and end customers,” says the former Bechtle top manager. Even during her time as Head of Software Sales and License Management, she appreciated the advantages of hybrid infrastructures. As Managing Director of MRM, she can now offer them at the best possible price – an offering the industry will likely welcome.

How MRM partners benefit

System integrators and IT service providers cannot know the complex and constantly changing Microsoft licensing rules with the same depth as the licensing specialists at MRM. Melanie Achten is therefore convinced:

“When we actively support customer consulting, everyone benefits: companies receive optimal licensing strategies, our partners are relieved of complexity, gain highly satisfied customers, and earn attractive margins on the used software they source from us.”

Savings of 30 to 70 percent make hybrid licensing not only an attractive consulting model for system integrators but also a sustainable one.
